Jan. ’17 – Present
Process Excellence Manager in the Executive Office (with the invaluable help of colleagues and volunteers):

Promoted incremental innovation (continuous improvement, Lean) in Medair through training,
coaching, facilitating improvement and communication. Contributed to strengthening culture of
incremental innovation/CI both in the headquarters in Ecublens and the countries I visited.
• Enhanced the Medair Code of Ethics and ethics-related policies, and rolled out an annual cycle of
ethics-related training to strengthen our commitment to do no harm and treat everyone with dignity.
• Contributed to the development, communication, promotion and tracking of the Medair strategy.
• Created, rolled out, analyzed and summarized an annual Employee Values Survey that gives
quantitative and qualitative insights into how Medair is living out its values and engaging with its
employees and volunteers. This led to significant improvements in areas of weakness.
• Led a self-assessment according to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) and successfully led the
Medair effort to obtain CHS certification and to strengthen our adherence to the CHS.
• Created and piloted surveys of beneficiaries and institutional donors to assess and address their
perception of our adherence to the CHS.
• Documented the Medair Compliance Management System and promoted compliance through faceto-face training and workshops in a number of Medair countries, including remote locations.
Created the Medair Data Protection Guideline that is now being rolled out to protect data privacy
rights of all our stakeholders and to ensure data are properly collected, stored, used, transferred and disposed.

World Vision International, Monrovia, California, USA

World Vision Information Technology (WV IT): Helped document and roll out standard processes in WV IT. Transformed World Vision processes through integration of Lean, Six Sigma and IT solutions. Supported and promoted Process Improvement in the WV Partnership, which reduced cost by an additional $1.5M.

World Vision East Africa Regional Office, Karen, Nairobi, Kenya Jun. ’11 – May ’14
East Africa Regional Office: Established and led Process Improvement in the WV East Africa Region. Trained 124 WV staff and leaders as Lean Six Sigma Green Belts (55 in East Africa). Coached and helped Green Belts to facilitate projects that improved the performance of internal processes, reducing costs by over $1,826,000 (about $1.5M recurring annually), and reducing lead time by 59% and defects by 72% on targeted processes. Trained 650 staff and leaders cumulatively (450 in East Africa) in the six hour “Process Excellence Energizer” course I developed. Organized and crowd-sourced LSS Black Belt training for 11 WV Process Improvement Leads. Helped build a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

World Vision International, Monrovia, California, USA Mar. ’08 – May ’11
IT Systems: Provided process expertise, analysis, and guidance to the design and implementation of new Information Technology systems: one that housed key WV program information, plans, and reports and one that integrated three of the main existing systems supporting child sponsorship.
Process Improvement: Defined a vision of Process Excellence for World Vision. Developed and delivered interactive classroom, hands-on process improvement training to staff across the WV Partnership. Taught my week long Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training to 34 staff, and Process Excellence/Process Improvement Introduction training (two to four hours) to over 150 staff and leaders. Guidance for Integrated Programming Handbook: Provided process expertise and integrated guidance from many sources to create a single, comprehensive, easy-to-read handbook for use by WV field staff across the WV Partnership.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company/ULA, Denver, Colorado, USA Jun. ’97 – Mar. ’08
United Launch Alliance, Continuous Improvement Lead: As part of the core Continuous Improvement (CI) team, led the development of the United Launch Alliance (ULA) standard improvement process and templates, co-led the development of the ULA Perfect Product Delivery Vision of Excellence, and co-led the development of ULA CI training. Helped to develop and execute ULA CI strategy, and supported ULA enterprise formation. Received Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt training. Atlas & Titan Program, Process Improvement: Co-lead process improvement on the Atlas and Titan rocket programs, facilitated improvement teams, coached improvement efforts, developed LSS training materials, and trained staff and leaders in process improvement concepts and tools. Received Six Sigma Black Belt training and certification. Astronautics Competitive Transformation: Helped develop strategy for and facilitated increased cost ownership, resource alignment, communication, process reliability improvement, and training. RD-180 Co-Production: Helped understand and oversee the phased development of U.S. Co-Production of
the Russian RD-180 rocket engine at Pratt & Whitney in Florida.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts Fall ‘90, Spring ‘91, Fall ‘93
Teaching Assistant: Assisted professors in three courses by lecturing, holding office hours, creating
homework assignments and exams, grading, etc. Research Assistant: Studied and tested the application of Lean concepts and tools to the US aircraft industry as part of the Lean Aircraft Initiative. Reduced manufacturing process variation by 90%.

3Com Corporation, Santa Clara, California, USA Aug. ‘88 - Jul. ‘90
Manufacturing Engineer: Helped set up and bring to full production an automated surface mount printed circuit board assembly line. Performed capacity studies, ensured quality control, wrote operating procedures, trained operators, solved problems, and improved processes.

PERSONAL
I have a wonderful Swiss wife Regula and two energetic and creative sons Michael (14) and Daniel (12). While living in Denver, I volunteered with StandUp for Kids, doing street outreach to homeless and street children, and eventually served as (volunteer) Colorado Executive Director. For this I received the “Volunteer of the Year” award both from Lockheed Martin and from the StandUp for Kids national office. While working at Lockheed Martin, I participated in the monthly Ethics & Professionalism seminar that studied and discussed a variety of ethical, philosophical and religious systems and topics. I am fluent in English, intermediate in French and upper intermediate in German.
