Ana 1Mrs Durán-Salvatierra received her law degree from the University of Costa Rica. She has 30 years of experience in migration issues, a career that she began in the General Directorate of Migration and Foreigners of Costa Rica, where she served as Head of the Legal Department.

She also acted as Parliamentary Advisor in the Legislative Assembly. She later became the Director of the Admissibility Bureau of the Ombudsman's Office and she completed her career in the Costa Rican public service as Vice Minister of the Interior (2006-2009).

She joined the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in 2009 as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director General and later as Senior Advisor for the Americas to the Director General (2012 and 2017).

In August 2017 she joined as Deputy Chief of Mission in Colombia and in March 2018 she was appointed as IOM Colombia Chief of Mission.
