This week AidEx caught up with Yu Nakamura, who manages relations with the UN, NGOs and health sectors working with CPS Africa to continue delivering vehicles needed in the humanitarian field across the continent, a partnership that has lasted over a century. From motorbikes to machinery, Nakamura tells us how being an official distributor of CFAO and Toyota, whilst working through local distributor networks, ensures maximum reliability and performance, which in turn enables humanitarians to focus solely on their missions.
What does CPS Africa offer that makes your service stand out amongst competitors in the field?
Our products are specifically designed for African contexts. By tailoring conversions at our facilities, we are able to provide high-performance and reliability at the manufacturing stage, and then deliver to anywhere needed, included the most landlocked destinations in the region. But we do more than just supply. Local distribution also enables provision of after-care to ensure activities are sustainable.
What are your organisation’s objectives within the global aid and development context?
With the slogan, “With Africa, For Africa”, we aim to ensure the right vehicles are being used in the right countries with appropriate after-care, so that all of our clients can concentrate on their missions without wasting time and resources.
What positive impact is your work having?
Having the right products combined with a local support network provides our end-users with unlimited potential to conduct and complete their mission.
What are the challenges of working across sectors (with NGOs and government’s)?
Understanding and fulfilling the variety of demands from clients in the NGO and government sectors can be difficult when interests and respective priorities vary, but the shared enthusiasm and opportunities to support each other’s activities greatly enhances the partnership. Mobility solution is necessary for most humanitarian activities, so finding ways to collaborate is absolutely essential.
