AidEx, the leading event dedicated to global humanitarian aid and development held its fourth successful satellite conference and exhibition in Kenya last week. Since its launch in 2014, AidEx Nairobi has become the most important event in Africa for professionals in the sector. The conference theme this year explored Aid and Development Effectiveness: Results Through Transparency and Accountability.
Over two days between 13 and 14 September 2017 at the Safari Park Hotel, AidEx Nairobi welcomed its highest number of visitors to date; 525 aid and development professionals gathered for a high-level conference and exhibition, including members of the government, UN agencies, the Red Cross and leading NGOs.
#AidExNairobi trended on Twitter for both days of the conference with high engagement in the various panel discussions across social media.
Delegates were impressed by the all-women panel who discussed the future of how technology and big data will influence aid and development. Other invigorating discussions delved into the necessity of partnerships between local actors and larger INGOs, to achieve their common goal and increase the sustainable impact of projects for the beneficiaries.
Karin Fueg, regional deputy director at UN Women commented that “the networking opportunities at AidEx enable essential dialogue across all sectors relevant to the aid and development field”.
Head of technical assistance for DPSA Stephen Ashcroft said during a discussion: “AidEx is a good example of how to build relationships and open up conversations; platforms like this enable you to develop trust with time and contact.”
AidEx event director Nicholas Rutherford remarked: “The conference has been a great success: feedback from delegates has been overwhelmingly positive and we exceeded visitor numbers from previous years.”
AidEx is the largest specialist platform for aid professionals around the world and is the must-attend conference for the international community. This event sits alongside our satellite conference in Dhaka, and our flagship conference and exhibition in Brussels. These annual occasions are significant opportunities to connect with leaders in the field of humanitarian aid and development and most importantly, be part of the AidEx community.
